Infinity Ward Snubs PC CoD Community

The DaDs Army members have spoken and support the boycott of MW2 if changes are not made. Infinity Ward's PC version of the new shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will lack dedicated servers and mod tools. If Infinity Ward is successful in not allowing dedicated servers, other game makers will follow suit. It will be the beginning of the end for multiplayer games as we know and love them.

You'll be directed into a server that "suits" you. Along with a bunch of immature 12 year olds. No more clans, no more playing with who you want to when you want to. We do not want "console style" gaming on our PC's.

All hell is breaking loose in many CoD communities like The DaDs Army. The anger is stemming from a recent webcast released be BASHandSlash. News about the emerging situation which sees Infinity Ward reveal the first information about IWnet -- its new matchmaking service.

So why are PC gamers apparently getting so upset?

According to the article, IW wants Modern Warfare 2 on the PC to replicate the console experience. This means no dedicated server clients will be made available, and modders wont be able to work their magic creating custom-made mods and maps.

Robert Bowling has confirmed that the PC version of Call of Duty is essentially ruined as far as multiplayer and customization goes.

Let's get a quick rundown:

  • Instead of having dedicated servers on your favorites list that you frequent to play with your friends (such as the game servers provided by this clan) you will instead form matches based on game types. You can either invite friends to your match or allow IW-Net to populate the match with players of similar experience levels.
  • This multiplayer gaming service uses P2P technology instead of powerful gaming servers to manage the game play which will result in the matches being much smaller. You will no longer see the huge 50 person servers as we have seen in the past but the largest will likely be 16 or less. With such limited slots it is far more difficult to play with your friends or to even meet the same people more than once.
  • There will be no server administration so if you get someone who is hacking or being difficult, there is no recourse.
  • Steam will be used to distribute patches and it's rather fallible VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat System) will be targeting hackers instead of Punkbuster.
  • Mods or custom maps are not likely to be part of the future of Call of Duty.

While we're waiting on some form of official statement which essentially has to happen in the very near future, it would seem the PC Call of Duty fans will NOT sit back but instead fight and be heard.

The DaDs Army appreciates this position and will fight should to shoulder with the PC community. On the IW Forum the post To IW: The following clans have decided not to play MW2 lists over 30 pages of clans that will not support MW2. The DaDs Army is also on this list.

What Can YOU Do?
To help drive this change, we are asking our DaDs members and friends who agree that something must be done, to take the following actions to help convince Infinity Ward to alter their position.

PC Gamers Unite!

  • Cancel any preorders of MW2 you have as the only way to get IW’s attention is through hitting their revenue.
  • Sign this petition, which as of this writing is over 100,000 signatures.
  • Post on any community forums that you frequent your thoughts and include the above image as a sign of community unity.
  • If you use twitter, send tweets to 402 and the MW2 group to convey your thoughts.

AGAIN, nothing speaks louder than the lack of sales and the loss of money. Consider canceling your game if you preordered it. Lets show them the brother hood of the PC Gamers!

0 #20 Republican 2009-10-29 19:11 Over 170,000 sigs now. That's over 10 Million dollars in sales. You'd think they could afford to pay a couple of code geeks a few bucks to write some server code and end all this BS. Seriouslly…it's like they have some ego controll issue over the PC thing. Considering the server apps for COD4 and COD5 have already been done, it's not liek it would take alot to even do…IW is just being a bunch of jerks, and for what? to give up 10 million bucks?…how stupid is that?

0 #18 Sabre_4 2009-10-25 10:52 Good, now I can have some more money to finally fix my garage door. The wife should give me some good karma for that! Not holding my breathe though.

Btw, hello all. Been out for awhile on business and moving. I dont play too often anymore because all i currently have is a wireless router which is full of connect interrupt because my network adapter stalls (less than a second) about every minute. Any idea how i can config to fix?

0 #17 Raspy 2009-10-24 09:07 As it stands now if all of the 150959 people really dont buy the game, and were to have purchased 1 copy at $50… IW stands to lose $7,547,550. Not sure why they are still headed down this route

0 #16 NickDanger3rdi 2009-10-23 17:47 I've also added my name…maybe we should look at other games this year.

0 #15 Raspy 2009-10-22 22:30 I broke down an signed the petition. Number 141034.

Im very disappointed with IW. Hopefully will hit them HARD in their pocket books and they will come around and fix this!

0 #14 HolyFonz 2009-10-22 05:40 I had planned on buying 2 copies of this game. I now will be looking forward to the cod4 star wars mod and probably be buying Bad Company 2… IW is a big doo doo head…

0 #13 Kegaro 2009-10-21 16:09 Modern Warfail 2

0 #11 Jadefalcon 2009-10-20 20:24 I'm for boycotting all IW games. We can play COD 4 and 5 for a good while since we are always getting good new maps and mods from the community. I've alerted my old clan about these unfortunate events and I believe they have signed the petition also. Keep up the good work everyone lets press this point home.

0 #9 Bam Bam 2009-10-20 16:38 Hmmm… Infintity Ward had the FPS gamer community chomping at the bit to get their hands on this game. Now they alienate the PC gamer? I just don't get it. Will we revert back to CoD4? Or, as Insane said, boycott the CoD title all together?

0 #7 CrazyHorse 2009-10-20 14:47 Quoting ChiefRedCloud:
I began as a PC gamer and with NO disrespect to the Console gamers, you could see this coming. Do I sound like Mel Gibson in Conspiracey yet? Well I should. The facts as I see it…A game made for a console is pretty much standard in it's make and it's cost. Games for a PC vary so much in that Bill may have a 5 year old computer (usually out of date if not upgraded in 2-3 years) and I have a new updated computer. We both try to run the same NEW game. Or rather the publisher tries to make so we CAN run the same game. Costing them extra time and M O N E Y. Which they DO NOT want to spend.

Answer? A standard Console experiance. Not what this is about? Everything has to start some where. Are YOU sure this isn't the start?

You are right. That would explain why all the cool stuff for the xbox and ps3 but nothing extra for the pc version.
